AUAP-UNAIR on Webinar Presented Multidisciplinary Approach in Disaster Mitigation and Risk Management
 
Universitas Airlangga in collaboration with The Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP), held an insightful webinar entitled “AUAP-UNAIR on Webinars: Higher Education Institutions’ Social Responsibility in Disaster Management and Mitigation (Mamuju Earthquake)”. The webinar was officially inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih as the Rector of Universitas Airlangga as well as the President of World University Association for Community Development, and followed by a welcome remark from Dr. Peter P. Laurel as the President of AUAP. The keynote speakers were: 1.) Dr. Christrijogo Soemartono Waloejo (Universitas Airlangga) who presented an introduction on how Ksatria Airlangga Floating Hospital could extend higher education institution’s responsibilities and actions in disrupted remote areas, 2.) Prof. Dr. dr. Budi Santoso (Universitas Airlangga) who inspired the participants with the roles of obstetricians and gynaecologists in helping struggling pregnant women during COVID-19 pandemic, and 3.) Vice Admiral Alexander P. Pama (Former Executive Director of the National Disaster Coordinating Council of the Philippines) who gave an exemplary elaboration on disaster risk reduction management system for earthquake preparedness.
 
After the comprehensive presentation from the keynote speakers, more than 200 participants were invited to join three breakout rooms based on three topics: Emergency Medical Services in All Phases of Disaster Response, Trauma Healing after the Disaster Crisis, and Technological Development for the Crisis of Disaster. The first room was moderated by Mega Moeharyono Puteri, Ph.D and featured three distinguished speakers: Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Reza Delavar (University of Tehran), Dr. dr. Tri Maharani (Indonesian ministry of health), and Dr. Eng. Sapto Andriyono (Universitas Airlangga). Moderated by Endang Retno Surjaningrum, Ph.D, the second room featured three distinguished speakers: Prof. Dr. Zaki Rashidi (Iqra University), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shalimar Abdullah (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), and Prof. Dr. Nurul Hartini (Universitas Airlangga). The third room was moderated by Irfan Wahyudi, Ph.D and featured three distinguished speakers: Prof. Ir Dr. Faridah Othman (University of Malaya), Prof. Dr. Chandan Ghosh (Indian Ministry of Home Affairs), and Prof. Dr. Retna Apsari (Universitas Airlangga). All participants were able to have a meaningful discussion with the speakers by the end of the webinar, to gain multidisciplinary approaches towards reaching Sustainable Development Goals.

UBAYA Online Summer Program, September 20-25, 2021

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Ubaya has organized Online Summer Programs. It was specially implemented to provide a better understanding of the Covid-19 pandemic and to provide an atmosphere of learning and new experiences for foreign students who want to get to know the Indonesian arts and culture and not to forget specific scientific knowledge.

Ubaya is committed to always doing something innovative to enable students to learn without having to be physically present on campus. The university once again proves its innovation through its mobility without movement learning method. It is proven by the implementation of the 1st Ubaya Online Summer Program on 20-25 September 2020, titled “All You Need to Know About Covid-19” via Zoom application. For five days, 140 participants from 10 countries of the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Bangladesh, Iran, and Timor Leste, learn about various perspectives of Covid-19 ranging from medical, scientific knowledge, psychological, and economic impact. Not to forget, to introduce Indonesia, participants also learned the Indonesian language and various famous tourist objects in Indonesia.

The 2nd Ubaya Online Summer Program was held on 1-5 February 2021, with the title is “Dealing with the Covid-19 Pandemic: Best Practices from Indonesia”. This time the event attracted 426 participants from nine (9) countries in Asia and Africa from India, Vietnam, the Philippines, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Kenya, and the United Arab Emirates.

Ongoing partnership with Macao for Waste Reduction NGO for plastic sorting and recycling: results for the first 6 months
As part of its plastic management strategy, since December 2020, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) has been hosting a plastic sorting and collection event on the second Saturday of every month, in partnership with local NGO Macao for Waste Reduction.

USJ and the Correctional Services Bureau jointly offer a Prison Outreach Programme
Since 2009, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and the Correctional Services Bureau have been cooperating to develop an outreach programme to prepare incarcerated individuals for re-entry into society by providing junior college courses to enhance their professional knowledge and increase their employment opportunities. The programme aims to guide and encourage incarcerated individuals to improve their professional quality to the college level.

Mangrove Planting along Taipa shoreline

USJ students collaborate with the Macau Grand Prix Museum
In December 2020, as part of renovations to modernise their exhibitions, the Macau Grand Prix Museum invited University of Saint Joseph (USJ) students to submit a proposal that would convey the innovative spirit of the Grand Prix and expand the accessibility of the Museum to more visitors. In response, Students in the Master of Design and Master of Architecture programmes have used 3D printing technology to recreate celebrated formula cars from Macau Grand Prix history. The exhibition is currently on display at the Museum and is for the general public to enjoy, including those who are visually impaired

USJ brings Qiuci Caves mural artworks to display for the first time in Macao
USJ is displaying large scale mural works of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site of the Kizil (Qiuci) Caves for the first time in Macao.
